|
Saturday & Sunday
2nd & 3rd June 2007
Melton Mowbray & District Model Engineering Society will be holding
our 22nd Miniature Steam Rally at
Whissendine, near Melton Mowbray,
Leicestershire on the weekend of Saturday and Sunday 2nd & 3rd June.
Over eighty miniature steam road vehicles (traction engines and steam wagons) will be in attendance ranging in size from 2" scale (1/6 full size) to 6" scale (half size) together with a full size steam wagon and a steam roller. During the day there will be demonstrations of engines working, with some giving rides around the extensive grounds. On Saturday there will be two road runs through the village - the first around lunch time and the second in the late afternoon.

John Haining was responsible
for putting many of us in steam behind a traction engine or other road vehicle
and this year it is hoped to attract as many John Haining designed engines as
possible, either in steam or under construction in our model tent. If you have, or are building, a John Haining
designed engine then Whissendine 2007 Rally will be 'a must' to visit.
The society's miniature railway tracks catering for 2½", 3½",
5" and 7¼" gauges will also be busy giving rides throughout the
weekend with both visiting and members' locomotives.
Refreshments will be available throughout the weekend.
There will be a models exhibition displaying a very wide range of model
engineering.
On Sunday engine owners will be putting their engines through their paces with some giving rides and others demonstrating their capabilities. This year there will be a road run into the village leaving the rally field at 12 noon and returning by 1.15pm. There will also be an exhibition of model engineering and various displays around the rally field. The bar will be open at lunchtime and food will be available. Several trophies will be awarded and judging will take place during Sunday.
The event will be well signposted from the A606 Melton
Mowbray to Oakham road.
